‘Fibber Phil’ Bredesen Called Out by NRA: ‘Stop Lying’ About Endorsement

Phil Bredesen has a “D,” not an “A” rating from the NRA-ILA, and the organization wants him to “stop lying.”

The Democratic former governor of Tennessee had received an “A” rating from the NRA – in 2002, The Tennessee Star reported last week.

Bredesen is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) who is retiring.

NRA-ILA Political Victory Fund executive director Chris W. Cox  is using Twitter to call Bredesen out for his use of the old “A” rating, Breitbart reports.

On September 19, Bredesen posted a video to Twitter in which he is seen holding a shotgun and can be heard talking about the “A” rating, Breitbart says.

Bredesen’s video is available here.

Bredesen was elected governor in 2002, and Cox responded to Bredesen’s video by pointing out that this is 2018, not 2002. Moreover, regardless of Bredesen’s rating then, his rating now is a “D.”

Cox wrote, “Its 2018, you have earned a D rating for turning your back on self-defense and supporting the Hillary/Schumer/Bloomberg gun control agenda.”

“Phil Bredesen is a ‘D’ rated candidate, and he will not protect our constitutional rights in Washington, D.C.,” Cox also said. “Tennesseans should not be fooled by his false and misleading campaign ads.”

Cox then urged Tennesseans to vote for U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-07) for Senate and demanded that Bredesen “stop lying.”

The NRA-ILA said, “He supports criminalizing private firearm transfers between lifelong friends and many family members. He also supports a federal gun database and refuses to oppose burdensome and unnecessary restrictions on ammunition. As governor, Phil Bredesen vetoed protections for concealed carry permit holders and opposed allowing law-abiding Tennesseans to carry a firearm for self-defense in the manner that best suits their needs.”

“If sent to Washington, Bredesen will not ‘think for himself,’ as his ad states,” the NRA-ILA statement continues. “Instead, he will support the Schumer/Pelosi gun control agenda and vote to restrict the freedoms of law-abiding Americans.”

“Bredesen will vote against Tennessee values in Washington. He will kowtow to the gun control elitists and support Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi’s anti-freedom agenda. His new ad is a shameful attempt to fool the voters in his home state, and NRA members won’t be fooled.”
